N26’s chief regulatory officer Jan Stechele to step down to “pursue new opportunities”

  • Tenure at N26: Stechele joined N26 as Director of Banking Excellence in 2022 and served as interim Chief Risk Officer in April 2023.
  • Successor: Carina Kozole, appointed as Chief Risk Officer in July 2023, will take over Stechele’s responsibilities.
  • Previous Experience: Stechele previously worked as Chief Product Officer at Creditshelf and spent over 13 years at Bayerische Landesbank.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Challenges: During Stechele’s tenure, N26 faced a €9.2 million fine from BaFin for late money laundering reports in 2022. N26 has since invested €80 million to improve compliance and AML processes.
