    Description:

    This (VP equivalent) permanent opportunity with one of the world’s top ten Fund Managers are happy to take strong technologists from outside of Financial Services and train them into Investment Management  

    Using the latest cloud-based tech, this global team is at the forefront of innovation as they embark on building capabilities to transform large amounts of structured and unstructured data such as text, time series, and events into machine-readable knowledge fueling applications and the investment decision making process.

    Suitable applicants with 5 or more year software engineering experience in ANY industry sector to include at least 3 of:-

    • Experience in data engineering with Python (ideally to include Pandas, PySpark, Presto, PyTest)
    • At least 12-months commercial experience of working with Cloud (Azure/Google or ideally AWS)
    • Expert SQL skills
    • Knowledgeable in at least one functional (python, javascript, etc) and at least one other programming language such as (Scala/ Spark / Java, C/C++, C#, etc)
    • Bachelors Degree Mathematical/ Computer Science or a related technical discipline
    • Stays current with many best-of-breed technologies
    • Programs proficiently in several languages and is comfortable switching between them
    • Shows a commitment to quality by implementing suitable software using unit/integration and acceptance testing at the time of feature development

    Preference will be given to applicants with ANY of the following:-
    • Develops data models or schemas from scratch and knows of key concepts such as ACID, Normalization, and Transactions
    • Debugs large components with limited assistance and assists other engineers with debugging
    • Leads code reviews and actively participates in providing feedback on others’ designs/code
    • Performs as an expert in one or more parts of the software lifecycle (e.g., coding, testing, deployment). Oversees significant pieces of development within the development lifecycle
    • Designs and develops practical APIs and abstractions.
    • Owns technical debt in their own software
    • Any experience in API / Microservice development using technologies to include:  Java, Oauth, Apigee, Swagger
    • Experience with containers – Docker
    • Experience with CI/CD pipeline –GitLab, Jenkins, Artifactory
    • Understanding of distributed systems (Load Balancing, Auto-Scaling)
    • Familiarity with shell commands/programming
    • Knowledgeable in HTTP Request/Response Patterns
    • Knowledgeable in REST and GRPC
    • Understanding of Docker and its role in ECS/Kubernetes architecture
    • Because our client is already Cloud First (AWS) it would be hugely beneficial if you could bring recent/current experience with AWS Cloud Development to include use of AWS Services (ideally to include at least one of:- S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, Glue, Athena, Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, Fargate). As would an understanding of serverless microservice architecture in the context of AWS (Lambda, ALB, ApiGateway)
    • Understanding of authentication to microservices (AuthZ/AuthN, JWT, Oauth2)
    • Understanding and experience in coding for failure
    • Any exposure at all to Bloomberg Polarlake hugely advantageous
